氣體活化也是果殼活性炭生成成品所必須要經過的一個活化過程。氣體活化的過程其實是用活化氣體與C發生氧化還原反應，侵蝕炭化物的表面，同時除去焦油類物質及末炭化物，使炭化料的微細孔隙結構發達的過程。通過氣化反應，可使炭化料原來閉塞的孔開放原有的孔隙擴大孔壁燒失，某些結構經選擇性活化而產生新孔的過程？紫兜男纬膳cC的氧化程度密切相關，在一定的活化燒失率范圍內，活化氣體與炭化料的所化反應程度越深，生產出的活性炭比表面積就越大，孔隙也就越發達，吸附性能就越好。
